YAMAHA YZF-R15 sports bike

New Delhi: India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. today took the veils of its premium mototrcycle, billed as the 'super sports' Yamaha YZF-R15, first announced at Auto Expo 2008 in New Delhi in January, for "road riders who are ready to accept the challenge of the racetrack."

Earlier in December the company had announced taht it would market its 1680cc MT 01 and the 998cc YZF R1, brought in as completely built units, and priced at a steep ex-showroom price of Rs 10.5 lakh each. (See: Yamaha launches premium end bikes)

The technology in YZF-R15 has percolated from R1 (deltabox frame / fuel injection / 6 speed gearbox / styling / liquid cooled 4V engine). Just like the R1 it is light weight, it has power on demand, centralised mass, stopping power, aerodynamics, ergonomics, stability / rigidity. It has the controllability and manoeuvrability to maximise riding / cornering / braking performance.

Unveiling YZF-R15 during a select media tour for test ride at Irungattukottai Race Track, Chennai, CEO and India Yamaha's managing director, Tsutomu Mabuchi said, ''With the launch of YZF-R15, Yamaha unleashes its strategic intent to offer superior products in India and is poised to provide Indian sports bike enthusiasts with the combined thrill of technological superiority and artistic brilliance.''

''Yamaha has always kept up with new technology while constantly bringing it to the next level. With India's first liquid cooled, 4-valve fuel injected engine, YZF-R15 comes with R1 DNA. The bike has many firsts to its credit, high performance DiASil cylinder, forged piston, deltabox frame, linked type monocross suspension and sharp dual headlights,'' he added.

The company said in a statement, the Indian biking market is undergoing a paradigm shift in tune with the overall shift in the economy. "The Indian biker is today technology and style conscious rather than driven by economy," it said.

wheelers made in India. I came to learn that 180 DTSi has got both kick-start and self-start and others two such as 200 DTSi, 220 DTS-Fi don’t come with kick-start! Some friends told me it is a good idea to buy a bike with a kick-start option included to ride in Indian Road. I still have to think to make the right decision. Below are the photos of the 3 bikes! Check it out!

Bajaj Pulsar has been a major hit in the market and is largely responsible for changing the 'scooter maker' image associated with the Bajaj. Bajaj Pulsar DTSi comes in two variants: Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi and Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTSi.

The instrumentation is the new Pulsar 180’s highlight. It has a digital display for the speedo, odo, two tripmeters and the fuel gauge. The tachometer in true performance bike theme remains an analogue unit. It’s nicely executed too, and fits flush. The visibility both in the day and at night is superb too. Once the rider turns on the headlight, the LCD screen lights up in a very attractive orange backlight, making it easy to read during night jaunts.

Hero Honda GlamourFI

Hero Honda Glamour FI

Hero Honda has launched the fuel-injection model of its 125 cc bike Glamour under the title Hero Honda Glamour FI. The bike will come for an entry-level price of Rs 49,900. This will have a kick-start and drum brakes. The higher-end version will have self-start and disc brakes and will cost Rs 53000. This is the first time that Honda is offering its fuel injection technology on low-end bikes anywhere outside Japan. However, the Hero Honda Glamour FI is not expected to be a runaway hit due to two reasons; one - the price difference with the existing Glamour is just Rs 5,500. Two - The Hero Honda Glamour FI needs unleaded fuel, something that is still not available in large parts of India.
